Tributes are being paid to one of the biggest television stars of the 70s and 80s – Keith Chegwin – who has died aged 60.

The telly legend’s family said the star died at home on Monday after a ‘long-term battle with a progressive lung condition’, which had ‘rapidly worsened towards the end of this year’.

After Cheggers presented Tim and Kelly Barnes with their award, he sang a rendition of Combine Harvester - a re-worked version of the old Wurzel’s hit inspired Keith’s love for Britian’s favourite dish.

He praised Krispies’ top-secret recipe of battered chips, saying they topped many of the other regional winners, calling them ‘fantastic’.

Fans were delighted when Cheggers spent time chatting to them and sharing his chips.
