Pensioner death sparks police appeal

A pensioner died in hospital after a collison involving a bicycle in Exeter’s Sidwell Street. Police are appealing for witnesses.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner died following an accident in Exeter city centre.

An 87-year-old woman, who has not yet been named but is thought to be from the Crediton area, was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Friday July 11 after a collision involving a bicycle occurred in Sidwell Street, close to Poundland, at around 4.15pm.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesperson said: “The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for treatment.

“Sadly she died in hospital on Saturday morning.

“The cyclist, a local man, suffered minor injuries.”

Police from the serious collision investigation unit are investigating the incident and have asked any witnesses to come forward.
