Pedal power has raised more than £2,500 for launch equipment for Exmouth’s new lifeboat. At the start of the year six volunteers from Exmouth RNLI cycled the Exe Estuary their yellow oilskins and helmets in a bid to raise funds for the launch and recovery vehicle for the Shannon-class lifeboat, expected in early 2014. The success of the Six On Saddles challenge, which raised £2,590, has prompted the RNLI members to repeat the challenge in future years. Organiser and crew member Mark ‘Max’ Champion thanked all who supported the event or donated funds.

At the start of the year six volunteers from Exmouth RNLI cycled the Exe Estuary their yellow oilskins and helmets in a bid to raise funds for the launch and recovery vehicle for the Shannon-class lifeboat, expected in early 2014.

The success of the Six On Saddles challenge, which raised £2,590, has prompted the RNLI members to repeat the challenge in future years.

Organiser and crew member Mark ‘Max’ Champion thanked all who supported the event or donated funds.

He said: “I was amazed by and thankful for the help and support offered by the entire community, businesses and individuals, not only during the day but also in the organising and planning stages.

“As this had not been tried before, we had no idea how much money we would be able to raise and am very pleased with the final figure.

“The event had been such a success I am hopeful that it can turn into a regular feature on our calendar - watch this space for the next Six On Saddles challenge!”
