A stretch of the South West Coastal Path in Budleigh Salterton has been closed due to flooding.

The section of footpath between Lime Kiln Car Park and White Bridge, in South Farm Road, has been temporarily been shut ‘with immediate effect’ Devon Counry Council has announced.

A spokesman for the authority said high tide this morning (Friday, September 14) and a failed culvert has lead to flooding at Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club and has also damaged the public footpath.

Council contractors have closed off the path from the White Bridge to the car park. The path will remain closed until the flooded area recedes and repairs are made.

An alternative route is available via the footpath parallel to Granary Lane to the west of the cricket club.
