An Exmouth man is preparing to help out at the Paralympic Games.

Marcus Lang, 39, of Langstone Drive, (pictured) has been chosen as a volunteer ‘games maker’ and will be working in the Aquatic Centre throughout the Paralympic swimming contest.

He will be heading up to London this weekend for a behind the scenes look at the centre, before the games start on August 29.

It comes at the end of a seven year wait for Marcus, who expects the experience to be ‘wicked’.

He said: “I’m mad on sport generally, and right from when the Olympics were announced in 2005 I was signed up to be involved. I was hoping to be involved in both games, and was gutted not to be, although it would have been a busy summer.”

Marcus has already had a taste of the Olympics, after winning a games maker competition to watch rehearsals for the opening ceremony.

He also took some pupils from Willand School, where until recently he was deputy headteacher, to form part of the guard of honour for the ceremony proper.

He said: “We had a tour of the park, and saw all the athletes going past us into the stadium for the ceremony.

“Watching the Olympics has been really exciting. They said they wanted to inspire a generation, and children I know have been really inspired.”
