Pantastic night for Exmouth Ceramic Group

EXMOUTH Ceramic Group (ECG) went potty for pancakes recently.
The town’s thriving arts group had a flipping good time on Shrove Tuesday when it held a pancake night at Rethink’s headquarters, next to its studio in Meeting Street.
ECG held a similar social event last year, and this one was equally successful, allowing members from the various afternoon and evening sessions to meet and greet.
“It’s good fun and important to gel everybody,” said Angela Land, ECG’s social secretary who co-organised the evening with member Ann Loveridge.
“I do a Wednesday afternoon at my pottery group and only see half a dozen people, so this gives an opportunity to mix with everybody else and see who likes pottery too.”
Angela was a firm traditionalist.
“I’ve had one pancake so far, lemon and sugar and a bit of crème fraîche. I also brought some Nutella for people to enjoy, but I didn’t try it myself.”
Douglas Middleton, ECG’s chairman, was in his element, swapping his potter’s wheel for the frying pan, and producing dozens of delicious pancakes. Had it been easy?
“To start with, the pan wasn’t hot enough,” he said. “You need a bit of heat it you’re going to be tossing pancakes.”
Doug was also a traditionalist when it came toppings. Was he tempted by Nutella?
“Not my thing,” he said, “I prefer lemon and sugar.”
It may have been the first time that ECG member Pat White from Harpford had attended the pancake evening, but she was being more experimental.
“I’ve got chocolate sauce with cream on top,” she said, proudly.
None of this traditional lemon and sugar then?
“No, I’m on a diet! I didn’t go for lemon and sugar because I thought I could have that at any time.”
Had she enjoyed the evening?
“It’s been wonderful, very nice meeting all these different people from the other groups, putting names to faces.”
