Two restaurateurs showed the true meaning of Christmas by generously digging into their pockets and serving almost 50 free Christmas meals to pensioners.
Alan and Jacquie Haywood, the owners of Franklins, in The Strand, opened their doors to over 65s for a free two-course Christmas meal.
It’s the first time they have offered a free Christmas meal, and they hope it will become an annual event.
The couple had prepared for 40 places – and unsurprisingly the restaurant was packed to the rafters.
Alan said: “We just want to thank our staff and the volunteers and (grandaughter), little Rosie who made the cakes.
“There are people in Exmouth on there own wishing, hoping that they could have a Christmas meal with someone this year.
“It was the least we could.”
Resident Jacqui Dye said: “Thank you so much guys.
“My parents and in-laws had such a fantastic time.
“My parents have been through such a lot this year, it was a truly wonderful treat and I can’t thank you enough.”
Avril Cowan said: “This was a special thing to do, it has made lots of people happy.”
