An Exmouth optician is asking customers to help it support the vital work of the town’s food bank.

Specsavers in Exeter Road started a two-week collection on Monday for the Exmouth Community Larder, based at the Salvation Army Headquarters in Shepherds Row.

Store staff will be donating vital food supplies, and are hoping to encourage customers to do the same.

Store director Ria Heskins said: “We were shocked at how many people in the area rely on food donations to feed their family from week-to-week.

“Hunger is not just a problem in the developing world; as a community we have a responsibility to help those in desperate need living in and around Exmouth.

“We’re collecting everything from tins of beans to pasta and rice, which we then deliver to the local community larder.”
