A woman from Exmouth has been chosen to help care for the London 2012 Olympic athletes.

Exmouth Hospital secretary Jenny Brown is gearing up for the experience of a lifetime this summer when she helps care for the London 2012 Olympic athletes.

Jenny was chosen to become a volunteer after applying online last autumn.

During the games, she will help out in the athletes’ village, in London’s Olympic Park, in a medical administration and reception role.

Jenny, who will stay at her daughter’s home in Croydon during the games, said: “I’m looking forward to the excitement of it – being part of the team. It’s a time of my life when I can do it.”

Having attended interviews in Plymouth and training at Wembley Stadium to secure her role, Jenny will be a volunteer for the duration of the games.

She will be expected to be on duty any time from 7am until 11pm, as the volunteers – known as Games Makers – will work split shifts.

Jenny was one of 70,000 volunteers to secure a role out of 240,000 applicants.

Jac Kelly, chief executive of the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust, which manages Exmouth Hospital, said: “Being selected as a Games Maker is a big achievement and Jenny can look forward to the experience of a lifetime.”

Jenny’s family is also celebrating her son Richard’s good fortune in securing a pair of Olympic tickets for the men’s 100m final and three hours of athletics.
