New seafront toilets opened

Contractors worked around the clock to ensure Exmouth’s new seafront toilet block opened in time for the Easter bank holiday weekend.

The new facilities opened last Friday in time for the expected increase in visitors.

Despite disruption caused by the horrendous storms during January and February the contractors, working on behalf of East Devon District Council, completed the new facilities on schedule.

The facilities cost around £150,000, with the cash raised following the sale of the Elizabeth Hall site and will be open all year round.

The new block contains six unisex cubicles, one male urinal, one unisex accessible WC, and one unisex baby changing facility.

Replacing the outdated and non-accessible facilities, the toilets are a higher quality, easier to clean and maintain, and meet new access and health and safety standards.

Councillor Andrew Moulding, deputy leader of East Devon District Council, and chairman of Exmouth Regeneration Programme Board said: “I’m very pleased that we were able to get these new facilities open for the holiday period which, given the conditions during the winter, is to be applauded.”

Additional community toilet facilities will continue to be provided at Exmouth Pavilion and The Grove Public House.
