Budleigh Salterton Football Club has been officially decloared a Devon Air Ambulance landing site

A new landing site for the air ambulance in Budleigh Salterton has been declared open.

Last year, Budleigh Salterton Football Club was approached by the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) to see if it could create a community landing site at the Greenway Lane ground.

The club had ‘no hesitation’ in agreeing to the request and, following money raised by the town council, the floodlights were adapted so they could be remotely switched on by the helicopter emergency medical services team.

Club secretary Keith Wood said: “There was no deliberation regarding the landing of the air ambulance as it is a vital emergency service that the town required - and the club will always support the community where it can.”

Toby Russell, community helipads development officer at DAAT, officially declared the landing site open for night-flights with the staff from the Devon Air Ambulance shop in Budleigh and the town mayor, Chris Kitson.

Toby demonstrated how the lights could be remotely activated by using a mobile phone to ‘dial-up’ the floodlights at Budleigh Football Club.
