Hairdresser Mary Butler is saying goodbye to Budleigh Salterton as Marguerites closes after 50 years. She has reassured customers she is not retiring and will continue to operate from her home.

A ‘much-loved’ Budleigh Salterton hairdresser is closing her salon after 50 years.

Mary Butler, who has run Marguerites Hair Salon, in High Street, since 1967 is leaving her town centre location, but will continue from her Colaton Raleigh home from next month.

During her time in Budleigh, she has raised thousands of pounds for Age Concern through her ‘renowned’ Christmas raffles.

This year she handed Age Concern chairman Dr Graham Taylor a cheque for £500.

Town mayor Alan Dent expressed his gratitude to Mary for her contribution to the Budleigh community.

He said: “Mary will be greatly missed by many older ladies for whom she has been a friend as well as their hairdresser for many years.

“Mary has been a fantastic supporter of the local branch of Age Concern for whom her Christmas raffles have raised several thousand pounds over the years.”
