Exmouth has again been hit by flooding this morning as the terrible winter weather continues.

Last week there was flooding in the Imperial Road areas caused by high sea levels, however today it seems purely to be constant torrential rain causing the problem.

Currently the waters are just about passable for cars, but great care is needed in the area around Imperial Road and Elm Grove, and locals have previously complained about water being splashed towards homes and businesses.

Richard Sadiq, the owner of HiQ garage, said the business this morning had around 10cm of water inside, both flooding from the street and through its internal drains.

He said the flooding seemed to be very localised between his garage and Number 9 Sports Bar, and said the problem was the drains in the area could not cope.

“All the water is doing is sort of congregating in this area. We have lost five days so far in the last two weeks.

“The MP came last week and we said these drains need urgently looking at. We’ve been flooded twice more since then.”

  • If the flooding is localized and has "no where to go" why not incorporate a "pump house" in a location that can store and then "evacuate back into the river? I live in the greater Vancouver British Columbia area and follow the Exmouth Journal weekly (I was born in Exmouth) and the last time an " effective flood prevention was conducted in Exmouth" was after the "colonies was flooded" in the 1950s and this was around the late 1950s early 1960s. Long overdue "don't you think? Art Hine. South Surrey British Columbia. Canada
