Budleigh’s Hayley Wood has done the town proud at the final of Miss England, despite just missing out on the big prize.
Hayley, 21, of Marine Parade, was competing against 59 other girls from across the country at the final in Torquay on Monday, having been chosen as Miss Devon earlier this year.
And she had a good start, being chosen by the judges to go through from the initial 60 to the final group of 15 girls.
Although she subsequently missed out on the crown, Hayley is still happy with her achievements.
She said: “I was really happy to be chosen for the final 15. You can’t really judge it yourself, because there are so many pretty, confident girls you’re up against, so you just don’t know.
“I had a really good time. I really enjoyed myself, and think it was a good opportunity for me to build my confidence and meet some incredible people. The opportunities that have opened up for me just from being in the competition are really good.”
Hayley has already had offers to model for tourism and bridal magazines, and is now looking forward to the rest of her year as Miss Devon.
