A group which provides a highly-valued service to people with Alzheimer’s disease has celebrated its 10th anniversary.

The Courtney Memory Café marked the occasion with a party at its usual venue the Imperial Hotel, where those who attend the café and their carers enjoyed a special cake and treats in the company of the café’s volunteers and Exmouth mayor Bill Nash.

The café, which meets once a month, offers a range of games and activities for those with Alzheimer’s to enjoy in a welcoming environment.

Lead volunteer Jean Honey said: “It’s an afternoon in which they can share with other people in a nice surrounding, without feeling abnormal.

“The party went really well. People were chatting and laughing and enjoying themselves, and this is what it is – an afternoon where they don’t feel different.”

The memory café meets on the last Friday of every month between 2pm and 4pm. For more information, call Jean on 01395 223050.
