A business owner in Knowle village is calling on the authorities to do something about the speed of traffic passing through.

Jeff White, landlord of the Britannia Inn, is inviting councillors, police and local residents to attend a meeting to discuss proposals for traffic calming on the B3178, to be presented to Devon County Council.

Jeff said: “For far too long traffic has used the road through Knowle Village road as a short cut and some driver’s speeds must be in excess of 40 mph despite the speed limit of 30 mph.

“Even the police constable controlling the recent diversion outside the pub, due to the fallen tree blocking the road by Lee Ford Manor, commented to me ‘they do seem to drive a bit fast round here’.

“There have already been several minor accidents and if we don’t do something soon, there will be a serious one which may result in a fatality.”

The meeting will be at the Britannia next Friday, August 29, at 8.30pm.

It will follow the monthly community supper, which can be had for £6, although attendance at this is not compulsory to attend the meeting.
