The consultation meeting on an undeveloped piece of land in Topsham is being held next week. Read this and more.

APPROVED: Proposed alterations to a Topsham home have been approved by Exeter City Council.

The council says that a rear conservatory and dormer windows at 51 Victoria Road can go ahead.

STILL SERVING: The owners of Broadway House, which contains the Georgian Tea Room, want to make it clear they are still trading.

The business has been put up for sale so Heather and Gerald Knee can retire, but Heather says until a buyer is found they will still be open.

NATURE TRIP: The latest talk hosted by the Topsham Birdwatching and Naturalist Society will be combined with a field trip.

The talk Animal Tracks and Signs, given by Nick Smart, will be held at Matthews Hall on February 8, with admission free for members and £3 for non-members.

The field trip will then take place the following day, also costing £3 for non-members.

Those taking part in the field trip must go to the talk to get details.

CAMPANOLOGY: St Margaret’s Church is looking for experienced bell ringers.

They need to be available for services on Sunday, at 9.30am, and practise on Thursdays at 7.45pm.

BINGO: The latest evening of Topsham Town Fayre bingo is being held at Matthews Hall.

It takes place on Tuesday, January 29. Doors open at 6.30pm for eyes down at 7.30pm.

There are cash prizes, and also a raffle, with all profits to Town Fayre funds.

REJECTED: Planned alterations to a Topsham home cannot go ahead, after Exeter City Council refused planning permission.

Officers said the scheme to create a studio extension and porch extension at The Lodge in Victoria Road would be detrimental to the building, which is inside the Topsham Conservation Area.

MAY’S FIELD: The consultation meeting on an undeveloped piece of land in Topsham is being held next week.

May’s Field – south of Monmouth Street and east of Lower and Higher Shapter Streets – is protected from development by city council policy until 2025, and the Topsham Community Association, Topsham Society, and Topsham Allotments Society are looking for ideas for community use.

The meeting is on January 31, at Matthews Hall, at 7.30pm.

SPEED CHECKS: Topsham police will be stepping up speeding patrols in response to public concern about fast driving in the town.

PCSO Sarah Giles says that the Speed Indicator Device (SID) will be in regular use on roads in and out of the town towards Exmouth and Exeter to deter speeding.

BACKED: Plans to extend a home near Clyst St Mary have been supported by Clyst St George Parish Council.

The plan is for Trelissa, and councillors are happy as long as proximity to neighbours is considered.

East Devon District Council will now make the final decision.
