Reports a man had walked into the sea at Exmouth at 11.30pm on Tuesday night sparked a rescue operation.
Police received reports that a man had walked into the sea at Exmouth on Tuesday night.
At around the same time Exmouth’s inshore lifeboat was launched after Brixham Coastguard received a call from the ambulance service saying a man had jumped into the water.
A Portland coastguard spokesperson said: “A call was taken from Devon and Cornwall Police about a male walking into the sea at Exmouth.
“Whilst they were on the phone they stated that he had been recovered. Meanwhile, Brixham coastguard received a call from South Western Ambulance stating that the male had jumped into the water so they tasked Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat, which was stood down when confirmation was received that the reports were of the same person and that he was safe.”
