Man threatened to throw police officer over bridge

A Withycombe man threatened to ‘smash a police officer’s face in and throw him over a bridge’, magistrates have heard.

Adam Scott, 20, of Green Close, admitted a charge of obstructing police at Exeter Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that when police were called to an incident involving Scott, in Exeter on November 29 last year, and arrested him, he threatened to: “Smash [an] officer’s face in and throw him over a bridge,” before kicking out and threatening to stab officers.

In mitigation, the court was told that Scott made no physical contact with officers, and did not try to extricate himself or run off.

For this offence, magistrates handed Scott a four week conditional discharge, and ordered him to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

At the same hearing, Scott was committed to face charges of harassment and putting his ex-partner in fear of violence at Exeter Crown Court on January 25.
