Police are apealing for information relating to thefts from boats in Lympstone.

Police are keen to trace the culprit who untied two boats from their moorings at Lympstone, after stealing motors and outboards from the vessels.

Officers said the thefts took place on or around Tuesday August 28.

Devon and Cornwall police said a spate of thefts occurred in the village on that night, with £20,000 of property taken.

Police community support officer sarah Trayhurn said: “Two boats were untied from their moorings in Lympstone and both had items stolen from them before the thieves left the boats to just drift.

“By letting the boats drift there was the potential for a great amount of damage and risk to life of any other users of the Estuary.”

Police are keen to trace a 40 horsepower Suzuki 4-stroke Leanburn motor - serial no 04003F210091 and also a Mercury 4 h/p Sailpower auxilliary motor - serial no op335555.

Also stolen was an outboard motor with security lock, serial number: 026900XK, and a Tohatsu 3.5horsepower outboard engine, with serial number 075393XH.

Anyone who knows of the whereabouts of the equipment, or who has been offered similar to buy, is asked to contact police community support officer Sarah Trayhurn on 101.
