Exmouth pensioners Betty Erskine, 90, and Robin Tremayne, 73, tied the knot after a seven-year romance. This still have some way to go before being crowned the UK’s oldest newly-weds.

A 90-year-old Exmouth woman has tied the knot with her 73-year-old toyboy – giving them the combined age of 163.

Betty Erskine and Robin Tremayne married last Saturday at Exmouth’s Town Hall after a seven-year romance.

Robin, who is Betty’s full time carer at their Admiral’s Court home, hopes their marriage inspires others looking for love later in life.

The couple met when they lived in the same residential home in Uffculme.

Their friendship turned into love after they took trips together in the car and on the coach.

Robin said: “When my wife died when I lived there I used to go and see Betty and cry on her shoulder and then it just developed from there. I certainly wasn’t expecting it or looking for it.

“Because we had been on various coach and car trips to the coast we thought it would be nice if we could live by the sea, so that’s why we moved to Exmouth.”

Robin and Betty married surrounded by their family and friends, who travelled from London and Wales to watch the happy couple tie the knot.

The Exmouth couple still have some way to go until they are crowned Britain’s oldest newlyweds.

That accolade is held by 97-year-old Henry Kerr and 87-year-old Valerie Berkowitz, from North London, who married in July last year.
