Undeterred by the wintery conditions children at an Exmouth primary school joined in a celebration of reading.

Schools from across the country were due to take part in the annual World Book Day but in most cases the widespread snow curtailed the event.

This was not the case for Littleham Primary School after staff agreed to open the school for half a day to allow the pupils to celebrate their love of reading.

Pupils were able to take part in creative writing workshops and older children shared their favourite books with those in the earlier year groups.

Sarah Padbury, head of learning at the school, said they were delighted with the high turn out from pupils.

She said: “We weren’t going to be deterred by the snow and, given the circumstances; we are delighted to have delivered on our vision to improve reading at the school.”
