An Exmouth chef has cooked up some funds for a Budleigh charity after taking on a gruelling cycle ride.

Keith Williams, 31, who lives in Bridge Road, entered the Jurassic Beast ride in Dorset to raise money for the Harry Cunningham Trust.

The trust raises money for neonatal causes, and was founded by Niki and Jamie Cunningham after their newborn son Harry died aged one day old in 2012.

Keith is a friend of Jamie’s, who last year joined him and other friends in a fundraising ‘Tough Guy’ assault course challenge.

Keen to give annual support to the cause, Keith signed up for the 63-mile Jurassic Beast despite having no distance cycling experience whatsoever.

The challenge pushed him to breaking point, but he was rewarded by around £430 in sponsorship.

Keith said: “I’ve never done any sort of cycling event before. Some of the hills which were involved… I have never seen anything like it.

“It was really hard for me. I was struggling for a couple of weeks after, but I had to finish as I’d been sponsored for so much money, and I was never going to not finish.”

Keith added that he would like to thank his employers the Royal Beacon Hotel, along with the Cranford Sports Club and Sam’s Funhouse, who put out collection tins.

Niki Cunningham said the charity would use the money to buy specialist equipment for bereaved parents to use at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, and added: “Harry’s Trust is so grateful for the hard work and dedication Keith has shown.”
