Keep our money!

If this raving lunatic might reply to Mike Newby’s letter in the Journal of January 17, I would be grateful.
There are going to be a lot of letters like Mike’s in newspapers, magazines etc.
It’s the fight-back we have been told to expect from lovers of the European Commission et al.
Most people have by now woken up to the fact that ‘Europe’ is not at all what we thought we were voting for.
We thought we were voting for a trading agreement.
In fact we were being lured into a European Superstate.
I believe Edward Heath knew that and now we know the truth, don’t we!
Since 1973, we have handed over £354 billion to the EU and we’ve received in ‘grants’ the princely sum of £165 billion.
We have subsidised the EU by £189 billion.
When Mike speaks of the money the EU gives us he’s referring to our own money coming back to us.
Don’t give it away to start with, I say, and cut out the middle man!
Just take last year’s figures. The EU cost us £15.7 billion. We got £4 billion back.
Better to keep the £15.7 billion and finance Eden ourselves.
In that same financial year, our financial services generated a trade surplus of £40 billion with the EU weighed down by a £55 billion deficit.
The EU is desperately trying to take over the City, it already has feelers in there.
No, No, No.
Yes, many business leaders are clamouring for us to stay in the EU.
They’re the same ones who insisted we should join the Eurozone and look what’s happened there!
Many other major business leaders have seen the light and are pressing for an In/Out referendum.
Mike refers to the US wanting us to stay in Europe - well, of course, it does.
It wants a voice in Europe, someone watching its back.
It’s a purely selfish desire and if we won’t be used then someone else will.
Along with many others, I want my country back.
I want our laws to be OUR laws, not 80 per cent of them imposed by unelected committee in Brussels.
These next few months are going to be hectic, but we shall weather the storm.
