Germany’s former Olympic judo coach, Juergen Klinger, recently visited Ladram Bay to honour an outstanding local martial artist.

Exmouth judo player Thomas Palin was presented with his black belt second dan at Devon’s annual martial arts course.

The course, which is now in its 32nd year, was held at Ladram Bay Holiday Park.

Herr Klinger, a sixth dan judo master and Exmouth’s John Goldman, a seventh dan judo master, presented Tom with the award.

Tom, who is also a keen hockey and five-a-side football player, has been training with John since he was six years old.

Now 29, Tom said: “Exmouth Judo Centre has been a large part of my life.

“Judo training, apart from the benefit of sport and fitness, has helped me in life skills, and the social side is brilliant.”
