An ‘evening in India’ is being held in the Public Hall on Saturday, December 1. Read this and more.

AUTUMN FAIR: The Temple Methodist Church in Budleigh Salterton is holding their annual autumn fair in the church on Saturday, October 27, at 2.30pm.

Various stalls will be on offer including teas, coffees, bric-a-brac, handycrafts, books and cakes.

ROAD RAGE: Police are investigating an incident of common assault following a dispute between two drivers on September 20 when one driver threw liquid over the other driver. If you have any information call 101 quoting crime reference number KE/12/2221.

INDIA EVENING: An ‘evening in India’ is being held in the Public Hall on Saturday, December 1, at 6pm in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The event comprises a speaker from Bath Travel, a traditional Indian dancer, a raffle and a choice of three curries.

It promises to be a colourful and entertaining event, so please do go along and support it.

SHOP LATEST: The Village Shop Committee in Otterton has drawn up a full business plan detailing ways of obtaining grants for future development.

The committee is not prepared to consider using any of the current building for a shop but has proposed using the space behind the hall where the current storage sheds are.

This was considered to be too small by the committee. There is concern that the lease does not allow commercial usage. However, it is within the powers of the committee under schedule 1(d) in the lease dated 1924 to approve any such use if they so wish.

PORCHES APPROVED: District planners have rubberstamped plans to build a replacement porch on front elevation and new access ramp at 1 Penlee.

They have also approved a combined front loft and porch extension at 24 Vision Hill Road.

DRAKES SCHOOL: The Drakes School PTFA Craft Fair takes place on November 10 at Budleigh Salterton Public Hall.

Time 10am to 4pm, entrance 50p. Raffle, tombola, cake stall, Christmas gifts. Proceeds of refreshments to to the playground project.

BURGLARY: A home in Queens Road in Budleigh was broken into between October 13 and 14. Entry was gained through an unsecure porch door. A window was smashed but no further entry was gained.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference number KE/12/2408.

BRIDGE CLOSED: The bridge over Budleigh Brook, East Budleigh, will be closed for nine days next month.

The closure, by county highways, is from Monday, November 12, to Wednesday, November 21. During this period vehicles will be banned from the bridge or on sections of affected roads except for access.

SCHOOL GIFT: The St Peter’s Church golfing society have donated £800 to St Peter’s School to be used for sports.
