Hospital care views sought

A local health watchdog wants to hear from Exmouth residents who have been in hospital or a care home.

Every year hundreds of Exmouth people are either discharged from a hospital or care home.

While countless others, from outside the area, have had to stay in Exmouth Hospital or one of its many care homes.

Now they are being asked how they felt about the quality of care they received.

Recently, Healthwatch England has said that tens of thousands of people were potentially being sent home without proper support when they left hospital or a care home.

A spokesman for Healthwatch Devon said: “This concern has led to the launch of a national special inquiry into people’s experience of discharge.

“Locally, we have heard similar stories about some patients being unsafely discharged from hospital and care.

“However, many other individuals have felt happy with their discharge experience and subsequent follow-up.”

“We want to ensure that Devon residents get their voices heard in Healthwatch England’s Special Inquiry.

“We are gathering feedback from as many people as possible so we can understand what does and doesn’t work, and where improvements may need to be made.”

They are appealing for anyone discharged from a hospital or care home in the last 18 months to give their views.

They want to know if you felt ready to be sent home and the quality of the follow-up care.
