Staff at the Exmouth branch of Specsavers wore hats and raised more than £200 for the Brain Tumour Research charity.
The Exeter Road Specsavers staff, who took part in the charity’s wear a hat day, said the fundraising event had ‘particular significance’, because one of their team had died from the disease.
Ria Heskins, store director at Exmouth, said: “Myself and ophthalmic manager Kim spent many an hour baking for our store cake sale and we are delighted that sales from this, and from donations for repairing glasses, means we have managed to raise over £200; this has been a fun way to raise awareness of a very serious issue.
She added: “We would like to thank everyone who bought a cake and donated to support this cause.
“Many people are unaware that eye tests are not only critical for your eyes, but your wider health too.
“A routine test allows opticians to detect serious issues that can be both sight and, in some cases, life threatening – including brain tumours.”
