GARDEN BID: Plans have been submitted to renovate an estuary garden in Topsham.

The owners of 19 The Strand want to demolish and rebuild the summer house and garage in the garden opposite the house, and modify the entrance for vehicles.

The plans will now be considered by Exeter City Council.

VINTAGE FAIR: A new weekly fair for fans of vintage and homemade clothing, gifts and furnishings, has started in Topsham.

The Topsham Vintage and Handmade Fair takes place at the Malthouse function room in The Globe Hotel, every Friday between 10am and 2pm.

A variety of stalls will be on offer, including vintage and recycled furnishings, vintage clothing, and vintage style and handmade accessories. Tea and coffee is also available.

COUPLE’S ART: The Topsham Art Room is reopening its doors after a winter break with a new exhibition.

Paintings and sculptures by husband-and-wife artists Roger and Margaret Dean will be on show.

The artists met in 1957 at Liverpool College of Art – where their fellow students included John Lennon – before moving to Exeter in 1971 to take on teaching roles.

The Art Room show will be their first joint exhibition since 1964.

Their work will be on display between February 4 and March 4 on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays, between 11am and 5pm.

ORGAN TREAT: The latest concert held by the Exeter Electronic Organ Club is coming to Topsham.

Brett Wales will be appearing at Matthews Hall on February 2, at 7.30pm.

CHARITY COFFEE: Topsham charity Devon In Sight is holding the first of a new series of monthly coffee mornings.

It takes place at the charity’s resource centre in Holman Way on February 8, between 10am and noon.

Attendance is free, and the event is open to all service users and members.

The coffee mornings are intended to act as drop in sessions for the charity to find out users’ views on the centre and future services.

EXTENSION HOPE: Plans to extend a farmhouse in Clyst St Mary have been approved by East Devon District Council.

The owners of Kenniford Farm House want to build a single-storey extension to the property.

CRISIS TALK: A talk on the Eurozone crisis is being given in Topsham.

Professor George Bulkley, an economics lecturer at Bristol University, will be giving the talk at Matthews Hall on January 31 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £5, and are available from Topsham News or The Topsham Bookshop.

Money raised will be going towards the Topsham Summer Youth Activities, which are organised by the Community Association.
