An East Budleigh church has held a special exhibition to mark the centenary of the start of World War One.

And the event at Salem Chapel has proved so popular that, having been due to end last weekend, it has been extended to run on weekends throughout July.

It features a number of exhibits which highlight the impact of the war on the local area, and includes work by pupils from Otterton School.

Salem Chapel’s Kathy Moyle said: “The exhibition has been very popular. The children’s display is magnificent – for 10-year-olds, they have done the most wonderful pictures.

“It has been wonderfully received and that’s why we thought we would keep it open, because we have had so many people asking to come back.”

One exhibit, which has sadly had to depart is a commemorative quilt, entitled We Will Remember, which has been made by South Devon Quilters for the Royal British Legion, and is touring Devon, before being raffled off to raised funds in November.

Kathy said it had proved very popular with visitors.

The remainder of the exhibition will now be open this weekend, July 12 and 13, next weekend, July 19 and 20, and the weekend after, July 26 and 27.

It should be open between 2pm and 5pm – look for the flag flying outside to confirm opening.

Entry is free, but donations will be welcomed.
