The Environment Agency has earmarked £25,000 to spend on a vital water drainage passage on Budleigh Salterton Beach. Read this and more.

HOME REJECTED: Town planners have recommended that an application to build an extension at 33 Northview Road be refused.

The plan called for the demolition of existing garage and the building of single storey structure and construction of two storey replacement extension and fully glazed conservatory together with internal alterations.

The plans will now be considered by district planners.

-----

TODDLERS: ‘Bounce and Rhyme’ sessions for toddlers are being held at Budleigh Salterton Library on alternate Fridays during term time.

The sessions include stories, nursery rhymes and simple stories for babies and toddlers.

The stories are a mix of old favourites and modern.

The sessions are 9.25am to 9.45am. The cost is free. Bookings are by free ticket only, available from the library a week in advance.

Call the library to book or to get dates on: 01395 443245.

-----

LISTED BIDS BACKED: Three listed building planning applications for homes in Budleigh Salterton and Knowle have been backed by town planners.

These are: 3 Fore Street Hill, retention of timber windows and door and internal alterations to first floor; Flat A Lawn House, 10 West Terrace, removal of partition walls, alterations to bathroom and the replacement of windows.

The third application is for 3 Bridge Cottages, Knowle, replacement of front door.

All recommendations were made following advice from the district council’s conservation officer and the decisions will be determined by district planners.

-----

FLOOD CASH: The Environment Agency has earmarked £25,000 to spend on a vital water drainage passage on Budleigh Salterton Beach.

The money has been included in the Local Authority and Internal Drainage Board capital investments for 2012/2013.

The money will be spent on the western outfall on Budleigh beach.

There are two outfalls on the beach, west and east, that drain excess water from the Otter Valley. When blocked they have previously led to flooding.

-----

EXTENSIONS SUPPORTED: Applications for extensions on three Budleigh homes have been supported by the town council.

These are: 5 Upper Stone Borough Lane, extensions and alterations; 11 Hooker Close, a two-storey side and rear extension; 19 Knowle Village, construction of a two storey rear extension.

The final decision will be determined by district planners.

BICTON AWARDS: The achievements of apprentices from across Devon were celebrated and recognised at a special awards ceremony last week in Bicton College.

Certificates and special awards were presented to 35 Bicton College apprentices who have shown outstanding achievement in such diverse occupations as floristry and service engineering.
