Woodbury families are set to enjoy the benefits of growing trees and fresh fruit for years to come, after the planting of the village’s community orchard.

The first trees have been planted at the site in Town Lane, after Woodbury Parish Council, which has the land on a long lease from Clinton Devon Estates, agreed to it being used for the project.

Twenty-seven trees have been planted so far, paid for mainly by village families, and also former residents from as far away as Australia!

It is hoped the orchard will eventually be home to around 70 trees, and will also feature a communal space to be used for events and activities.

Woodbury Community Orchard chairman Alex Thiemann said she was pleased to see planting under way, after a long campaign to bring the idea to fruition.

She said: “It’s fantastic to get the first trees in and see people turning out to help after quite a long process. It’s really lovely.”
