Children of Royal Marines are being offered free places at a top boarding school.

Greenwich Hospital is the Navy’s oldest charity and the Royal Hospital School’s bursary scheme is open to youngsters whose parents or grandparents are current or former Royal Navy members.

The Suffolk-based school is holding a bursary information open day so parents can find out more on Saturday, 28 September, from 11am.

Families can have a guided tour, meet staff and find out about what it is like to be the parent of a boarder, the routines of the day, the curriculum, health care, communication and the admissions process.

The school has already subsidised hundreds of places for pupils starting in Year 7 but this is the first time that children could have their schooling completely funded.

Headmaster James Lockwood said: “Thanks to our parent charity Greenwich Hospital, from 2014 pupils in Hampshire and elsewhere can get up to 100 per cent off the fees at the Royal Hospital School.

“There are probably a lot of parents who are unaware of the various awards potentially available for their children, and who may not have thought about the Royal Hospital School.”

“We aim to provide a first-rate and yet affordable all-round education for the children and grandchildren of seafaring families, as part of our charity’s original charter.”

For more information about the bursary scheme contact the Royal Hospital School on (01473) 326210 or visit www.royalhospitalschool.org.
