Greenfingered Budleigh residents have celebrated 30 years of flower arranging, and are looking forward to many more to come.

Budleigh Salterton Flower Club marked its 30th anniversary with a demonstration at the Public Hall by national demonstrator Clive Moorhead.

Among those present for the historic occasion were Linda McGannity, the Devon and Cornwall chairman of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies, and, as a special guest, club founder member Lillian Gingell.

Club chairman Sandra Wallace explained that it was in the garage of Mrs Gingell’s home that floral art enthusiasts first gathered on April 11, 1984, to practise flower arranging.

The club expanded from those humble beginnings, and in its heyday had more than 100 members and was forced to introduce a waiting list. Although in the following two decades the membership declined, numbers are now increasing again and Sandra said the club can look forward to the future with confidence.

Clive’s demonstration featured a series of arrangements on the theme ‘In Anticipation’, which were then raffled at the end.
