Archant

A blocked drainage outfall pipe, which threatened to leave farms and Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club waterlogged for weeks, has been cleared.

There had been calls for specialist help to be found by East Devon District Council to clear the pipe, which runs under Lime Kiln car park to the sea, after local farmer Tom Pyne, who normally clears it, found himself unable to do so after the recent severe storms led to a major blockage.

However, rather than wait for council help, Mr Pyne has now decided to enlist his own professional support, and the pipe was cleared on Sunday.

Cricket club secretary Kevin Curran said: “The cricket club members are very grateful for Tom’s extra efforts, which will now allow the dykes around the ground to empty and the drainage of the ground to function in time for the new season.”
