The district’s economy boss says regular flights between London and Exeter will boost business in East Devon.

East Devon District Council’s cabinet member for economy Ian Thomas has welcomed news that airline Flybe is to start offering flights from Exeter to London City Airport from the autumn.

Flybe ahas nnounced its intention to operate to European ski resorts and to French and northern Spanish destinations, with more details of these services expected soon.

Councillor Thomas said: “This is fantastic news for the company, for the local economy and for the new commercial zone developing on the fringes of the airport.”

Headded: “These new flights will open up an important lifeline for businesses in Exeter and East Devon, bringing the possibility of easy shuttles between the two cities and the promise of more companies considering relocation to this area, which is fast becoming a magnet for knowledge-based industries and other commercial operations.”

He said with Exeter Science Park and Skypark in the offing news that business people will be able to commute easily three times a day between our area and the capital meant that the sky’s the limit for expanding the economy of East Devon.

“This is another positive step in support of the concept of providing jobs and homes close to each other at the western end of our district and near to the city of Exeter, which is at the heart of the sub-regional economy.”
