Branscombe Airfield’s new business venture is selling jets, and the first plane will land this weekend. Read this and more.

FESTIVE FUN: Beer WI is taking bookings for its Christmas lunch for over-60s until Wednesday, November 22.

The meal will be held in the Mariners’ Hall on December 6 at 12.30pm.

RE-OPENING: The resurfacing of the Townsend coach park in Beer will be completed and it will reopen this weekend.

Devon County Council contributed a £5,000 grant towards the work that closed the park for five days to redraw the lines and repair the tarmac.

Resident permit-holders were informed of the closure by the parish council.

HARD-HITTING: The Beer Film Society is showing We Need to Talk about Kevin, featuring Tilda Swinton and John C Reilly as parents of a troubled child.

The doors at Steamers art gallery open at 7pm on Monday, ahead of the film starting at half past.

Tickets are £4 for members or £5 for non-members.

PLANE BRILLIANT: Branscombe Airfield’s new business venture is selling jets, and the first plane will land this weekend.

Delayed by the recent storms in the US, Sidbury pilot Phil Clarke will fly the Total Eclipse plane from Chicago to Dunkeswell, where the airfield is long enough to land a jet.

The company has the sole rights to sell the aircraft to the European market.

The Mariners’ Hall will be filled with stalls and there will be a raffle, refreshments, people in Victorian dress and a very special visit from Father Christmas.

FUEL LEAK: Fire crews from Colyton were called to Beer when a silver car was spotted leaking petrol in Fore Street last Friday morning.

The vehicle was isolated, a mechanic was requested and spill pads were used to soak up the fuel.
