Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at an abandoned Exmouth factory.

Two crews were called to the scene in Pankhurst Lane at about 12.15am this morning (Monday).

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Spokesman said the fire involved a large pile of timber inside a single storey brick and concrete warehouse, measuring approximately 70 metres by 30 metres.

A hazardous materials officer also attended the scene to provide specialist advice to the crews, as it was believed that there was asbestos roofing involved in the fire.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and jets to dampen down the blaze.

Further details to follow.
