Exmouth’s Kobi is still a cut above after Hair contest exit

IT was all cut and dried as Kobi Kirby, the 16-year-old hair stylist from Exmouth, was narrowly squeezed out of the final of BBC Three’s reality show Hair earlier this week.

But the youngest competitor in the hairdressing competition was philosophical about not making it to the final, was proud of what he’d achieved and says he’s determined to carry on being a hair stylist.

Despite a storming quarter final, Kobi struggled in all of the semi’s three rounds.

His mohican was too wide, his men’s haircut wasn’t quite to the shape required, while his bridal cut didn’t have the judges dancing down the aisle.

“I was nowhere near as strong,” said a disappointed Kobi, after the show had aired on Tuesday, March 25.

“The pressure of it being a semi-final took a toll. To be the youngest was completely overwhelming.”

But he was delighted with his progress.

“I can’t believe how far I got. I’ve come on so much. Watching it back and seeing how much I’ve progressed is amazing.

“Just because I’m only a semi-finalist doesn’t mean I’m going stop. It was a competition, and I went in to win and I did as best as I could.”

Hair’s final show is at 9pm on Tuesday, 1 April, on BBC Three.
