Exmouth comes under the spotlight today, when Gordon Ramsey’s Christmas Cookalong programme links up live to the town

When the Journal broke the news a celeb would be attending Exmouth’s famous Christmas swim as part of a live link to Gordon Ramsey’s Christmas Cookalong TV programme, the rumour-mill went into overdrive with speculation as to who it would be.

Today the wait is over, as Iwan Thomas MBE - the Olympic and Commonwealth 400-metre sprinter who has also been a contestant on Celebrity Masterchef – takes a dip in the sea at 11am as well as cooking up some festive fayre for Exmouth’s Beach Rescue Club.

The live link will be shown today at 10am on Channel 4, with Iwan teaming up with the volunteer beach lifeguards, from Exmouth’s Octagon.

A spokesperson for the show said: “During the show, Iwan will tell Gordon that he’s decided to spend this Christmas down the coast from his usual residence in Bournemouth to join in with Exmouth’s Christmas Day swim.

“While he’s there, he’s also going to reward the local lifeguards who regularly give up their Christmas year after year to patrol the beach event, by cooking them a Christmas dinner to remember.”
