IT’S all hands on deck as Exmouth Lifeboat Fundraising Team prepares for its biggest event of the year, coming up this Sunday, August 18.
Exmouth RNLI’s Open Day takes place between 10am and 4pm at the boathouse, in Queens Drive.
Dedicated volunteers are currently busy organising stalls, raffle prizes and making produce to sell in order to raise funds.
This year the team is focusing on raising money towards the Exmouth launch and recovery vehicle (LR&V) appeal.
The LR&V will enable Exmouth RNLI to launch its new Shannon-class lifeboat, due early next year.
Funds are already rolling in. The team has just broken the halfway mark, with £77,000 out of the £150,000 needed to contribute to the LR&V.
But the team needs more cash. The open day is a chance to raise a large chunk of the remaining £73,000.
Attractions include tours of the lifeboat station and the all-weather Mersey-class lifeboat, Margaret Jean.
The Sea Safety Team will also provide free advice and a lifejacket clinic. In addition – and dependent on weather conditions and operational availability – the inshore lifeboat crew will give a demonstration onboard the George Bearman.
The open day is free entry, but take plenty of cash with you to help the LR&V appeal.
