Gordon Ramsay set to film in Exmouth

Exmouth’s Christmas day swim will come under the spotlight when a film crew , and mystery celeb, links up live to the town as part of Gordon Ramsey’s festive cooking programme.

A mystery celebrity is heading for Exmouth on Christmas Day as part of a live television broadcast that will coincide with the swim.

The man, whose identity is still under wraps, is taking part in Gordon Ramsay’s Christmas Cookalong Live, due to be shown at 10am on Channel 4 on December 25, writes Becca Gliddon.

The celebrity will attempt to mirror chef Ramsay’s culinary skills live on TV - cooking up a ‘foolproof’ three-course Christmas dinner, live from the seafront - with his efforts served up to Exmouth Beach Rescue Club members.

The Journal has learned Ramsay’s jointly-owned production company, One Potato Two Potato, has been in talks for months with Exmouth RNLI, the town’s beach rescue club and the town council about filming the live link on Christmas Day.

The live show is expected to be filmed from a prominent seafront location, possibly The Octagon or from a portable catering trailer, overlooking the crowds on the beach for the festive swim, which starts at 11am.

Although Channel 4 is remaining tight-lipped about the identity of the celebrity, it is expected he could have a link to swimming.

The programme makers have been coy about releasing any details prior to the broadcast, saying nothing had been finalised.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said a programme would be filmed live from Gordon Ramsay’s south west London home on Christmas Day.

She said the TV chef ‘definitely won’t’ be visiting Exmouth on Christmas Day and would not be drawn on any other details of the show, if the town would be featured, or the name of the visiting celebrity.

The spokeswoman said: “I am not in the position to confirm anything. The production team will be having talks with various people, but we just don’t know who.

“It’s still all unconfirmed. We haven’t got any of the guests confirmed and none of the other elements has been confirmed.

“There’s a possibility we may be doing a live link. It’s very up in the air.”

Gordon Ramsay is the latest in a long line of TV chefs heading to Exmouth to film.

Earlier this year, the Hairy Bikers and the Fabulous Baker Boys visited the town, filming the seafront to include in their programmes.

More recently, popular TV chef Jamie Oliver was spotted filming on Exmouth beach for his show Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club.
