Police appeal for information after a property was burgled in The Colony while the family was home

A burglary carried out at a home in the Colony has prompted police to urge people to lock their homes even if they are inside the property.

Officers said a property in Halsdon Road was targeted sometime between 9am and 10.30am on Wednesday March 5.

Around £50 in coins was stolen from the property, plus a piggy bank containing £5.

A purse and store cards were also taken, police said.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard someone acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesperson said: “The offender came in through an unlocked rear back yard gate and then entered the back kitchen door that was left insecure.

“The family was in the front room with friends. They think the dog ran out the back and started barking.

“The dog sleeps downstairs and they never heard a peep from him overnight.”

If you can help police, call 101.
