An Exmouth woman has overcome a 25-year ‘rollercoaster ride’ with her weight-loss to be nominated for a national Slimming World award.

Lisa Pike, 46, from Brixington, was selected as her group’s woman of the year after losing three stone in weight in less than a year.

She was nominated and then voted for by her fellow Slimming World members after dropping six dress sizes and has now been picked to represent Exmouth in the UK-wide woman of the year contest.

Lisa spoke of her surprise at the award adding: “I could never have dreamt that I’d be in this position when I first began – I have experienced improvements in my energy levels, sleep patterns and overall body confidence.

“I have been on a rollercoaster ride with my weight for 25 years and along the way have tried lots of different weight-loss plans.

“I feel like a different woman to the one who walked into Slimming World 11 months ago and winning Woman of the Year is a real honour.”

Lisa joined Slimming World after becoming increasingly unhappy with her weight and the impact it was having on her health.

She lost three-and-a-half pounds in her first week and was surprised that the changes she’d made had such a big impact so quickly.

Lisa, who was presented with her group award by town mayor Jeff Trail, thanked her family for their support, adding: “My family and friends have been so supportive and encouraging. They have seen that this is not a restrictive diet but a healthy-choice plan that can work for anyone.

“I still eat many of the same meals that I did before I started losing weight. I don’t feel that I miss out on anything and I am never hungry.”

Lisa Boucher, who runs the Slimming World groups at the Open Door Centre on Tuesdays, said: “She’s a fantastic ambassador for Slimming World and what she’s achieved is nothing short of incredible.

“She’s a huge inspiration to everyone in our group and I hope she inspires other women.”

The Exmouth Slimming World group is held every Tuesday at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 5pm and 7pm.
