Sara Lee has been presented with an award for long service and good conduct for her work with Devon and Cornwall police

An Exmouth woman’s dedication to Devon and Cornwall police has been recognised by the force.

Sara Lee was this month presented with a long service and good conduct award at a ceremony in Saltash, attended by Chief Constable Stephen Otter and Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon Sir John Cave.

Devon and Cornwall police said Mrs Lee was known for her dedication and commitment, as well as her ‘outgoing personality and infectious laugh’.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Sara is, without question, an invaluable asset to the force and an exceptional person with whom individuals are privileged to work alongside.”

Sara joined Devon and Cornwall police as a temporary clerk and typist in 1989. She was permanently employed by the force in 1990, where she showed ‘exceptional professionalism’, becoming renowned for her dedication and outgoing personality.

Several years later, in 2001, Sara took an active role in the force’s Bright Ideas campaign after she joined the review and inspections team as a performance improvement officer.

The mum-of-two, who married childhood sweetheart Jim, is currently a programme support officer, known for her co-ordinating responsibility of People Gold - the vacancy management group.

A force spokesperson said no matter what the challenge, Mrs Lee always wore a smile.

“Sara has a supportive and fair approach to work and holds a vast knowledge of the organisation,” said the spokesperson. “This, combined with her skills and experiences over the years, has resulted in her having an extensive corporate memory, which is relied upon by the colleagues around her.
