An Exmouth puss could be crowned the UK’s top cat today (Thursday).

At 17 years old, Kelly Bollington was plagued by anxiety - she found it difficult to sleep, had low confidence and had dropped out of college.

But that all changed with Maci came along - with her pet cat sleeping next to her in bed, she plucked up the courage to keep the lights off at night and began sleeping properly.

It was a major stepping stone towards boosting her confidence and gradually Maci helped Kelly find the strength to return to college.

Now, four years on, Kelly has a job, lots of friends and a bright future - all because of Maci.

And now Maci joins 17 fabulous felines named finalists in Cats Protection’s National Cat awards 2014.

Now 20, Kelly said: “I didn’t have a lot of confidence and I was bullied a lot in school.

“I was pretty lonely, so I got Maci and a job to support her.

“Coming home every day and seeing her I got better and better.

“She is just calming, friendly, shy and mischievous all at the same time.

“I have come such along way from where I was - my confidence grew and I went back to college and I’m happy now.”

The finalists will cat-fight it out in five categories at the Savoy in London - hero cat, most caring cat, most incredible story, outstanding rescue cat and Purina better together - as well as the overall ‘cat of the year’ title.
