A charity champion from Exmouth who is on a crusade to sign up as many as possible on the organ donor register has hailed recent awareness events a success.

Steve Gazzard, whose daughter Sarah Wright died while waiting for a double lung transplant in 2012, has been signing up more than 100 people to the organ donor register during National Transplant Awareness Week.

According to Steve, many questions were answered and ‘dozens’ of organ donor forms were taken away. He said by the end of the week some 134 had ‘signed up’, adding that the week was a ‘massive’ success.

One of Steve’s ‘band of merry helpers’ was Annette Tremlin who was the recipient of a heart transplant three years ago and recently took part in the Transplant Games held in Birmingham. She won a silver medal for the 3k walk.

Steve thanked the 134 new organ donors, his helpers and everyone who has supported his campaigns.
