Staff at Exmouth’s Co-op town centre store have been called ‘lifesavers’ and ‘unsung heroes’ for the efforts they’ve been making during the current inclement weather.

And some staff have literally gone the extra mile, trudging across Exmouth in the snow during the early hours to get ready to help customers.

“I went in today, and was really impressed by the staff,” said an Exmouth resident and regular Co-op user.

“They were still cheery and happy, despite obviously having trouble getting in to work. So I was very grateful to them. They are little lifesavers – unsung heroes.”

The shop’s manager, Will McCrea, 31, has shown the lead, battling against the snow himself, to come in from Axminster.

He shrugged off his own efforts, and was keen to praise his staff.

“They have been tip top,” he said. “We’ve had people walking in from all over Exmouth to get in at 5.30am. They are exceptional.”
