Supporters defied the bad weather and turned out in force to mark 25 years of Exmouth Rowing Club.

The club was set up in November 1993, at the Beach Hotel in Victoria Road, before later moving into the old lifeboat station on Queen’s Drive.

It had been hoped the 25th anniversary festivities would be launched with 24 rowers, divided into six teams, taking part in a Valentine Sea Race on Exmouth beach.

However, when the weather threatened to postpone the event, the club decided to hold the race on indoor rowing machines instead.

Club captain Morag Van Niekerk said: “It was meant to be an on-the-water event, but weather deteriorated and we had to make a call and bring it inside.

“It was absolutely chaotic but wonderful. The nice thing about it is we have got so many different ages and different abilities. It was absolutely fantastic.”

The winning team rowed 46,000 meters in an hour.
