Two men suffering from sea sickness onbaor a yacht were rescued by Exmouth RNLI

Exmouth RNLI crew rescued a yacht in rough weather on Saturday morning when the two men onboard suffered sea sickness.

The all-weather lifeboat Margaret Jean was launched to search for the vessel off Lyme Bay after Portland Coastguard received a distress call from the yacht’s stricken crew.

When the RNLI crew reached the yacht, two crew members boarded the vessel and motor-sailed it back to Exmouth.

The RNLI said the yacht’s two-man crew, from London and Norfolk, had been sailing around the coast when they fell ill.

RNLI deputy launching authority Neil Hurlock said: “Although both men were experienced sailors, they were unfamiliar with local weather conditions.

“South south-easterly winds in the Lyme Bay create very uncomfortable sea conditions.”

Lifeboat medical adviser, Dr. Peter Aitken, said: “The sea conditions were challenging and sea sickness a problem. Both crew rescued were tired but in good physical shape.”

A Portland Coastguard spokesperson said: “Exmouth RNLI lifeboat was tasked to assist a 26 foot yacht, Camilla, with two persons on board, one of whom was exceedingly seasick.

“The vessel, which was approximately 23 miles south of Lyme Regis, was taken to Exmouth marina.”
